Walker County and the City of Rossville will partner on an Earth Day Clean-up in the downtown corridor. Volunteers are needed to pick up trash, pressure wash and perform other beautification duties. Those interested in helping should meet at 8:00am at the Rossville Public Works building below City Hall, 400 McFarland Avenue. Mark Harris, Rossville’s Public Works Director, will be coordinating this project. Residents can also take advantage of free debris and brush pickup on Saturday.
The Rossville Redevelopment Workshop will focus its efforts around the Duck Pond in front of the historic John Ross House. Volunteers are needed from 8:00am to 11:00am at the Duck Pond to get the property ready for a newly funded park enhancement project. Future plans to revitalize Rossville will also be discussed during this activity. Bring gloves and wear comfortable clothing. A cookout will be provided for both volunteer groups at the John Ross House at 11:00am.
Earth Day Clean-up efforts will also take place in LaFayette. The city will offer free debris and brush pickup from 8:00am to 3:00pm Saturday to encourage residents to take pride in LaFayette. In addition, dumpsters will be placed at City Hall, Max Stoker Center, Lowell Greene Center, Joe Stock Memorial Park and the median in Pledger Parkway, provided by the City of LaFayette and Fontana. Recycling roll-off containers will be provided behind the Walker County Board of Education building on Farris Street, as well.
Volunteers interested in tackling additional clean-up projects in LaFayette should contact Jan Shattuck at City Hall at 706-639-1501. Several groups will be working in the West LaFayette area, meeting Saturday at 8:00am at Gospel Light Christian Fellowship, at the corner of Mill and Fortune Streets.
Chickamauga held a community clean-up day earlier this month at the Holland-Watson Veterans Memorial Park.
