While in the midst of some economic uncertainty, Walker County commissioner Bebe Heiskell says she believes there are signs the local economy may be actually improving.
“It is encouraging that many of our industrial companies are hiring,” Heiskell said.
Roper Corp., which produces ranges for General Electric in LaFayette, has currently added to its labor force. According to company numbers, this round of new hires added about 60 employees to the rooster, bringing the total employed at the plant to about 1,340.
In addition, Nissin Brake Georgia (NBG), located in Rock Spring, is beginning to add to the number it employs. The company is an OEM supplier of automotive, ATV, and golf car brake and aluminum die cast components. NBG currently employees 164 associates in various functions of its process within assembly, machining, casting, plating, stamping, maintenance, quality, and material handling.
Both companies suffered losses in sales and production during the 2008-09 economic downturn, but point to up-ticks in orders as cause for the new hires.
