Recreation - Things to do in Walker County

Mountain Cove Farms

McLemore Cove is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The property contains historic structures and numerous high-priority wildlife habitats. This property was described by former Georgia Governor Sonny Purdue’s office as being “one of the most scenic locations in Georgia, where the Lookout Mountain escarpment drops more than 1,000 feet to the valley floor.”

The acquisition of McLemore’s Cove through a partnership between the State of Georgia and Walker County consists of 1,565 acres of land that includes the ridge, slopes and bottomland of the cove. It is permanently protected through this purchase by Georgia's Department of Natural Resources.

Walker County controls the portion of the cove known as Mountain Cove Farms consisting of the manor house and other structures including barns, cabins, and a country store.

The county has been working on restoration efforts of some of the structures including what is known as the show barn. The show barn has been refurbished to accommodate weddings and other events.

There is also a guest house on the property that can sleep sixteen people and includes a master honeymoon suite, as well as a working fireplace, a large patio and a downstairs game room. The house is being rented as a weekend get away or can accommodate group excursions, such as a church or corporate group.
