Building Inspections  & Codes Enforcement Office
This department is responsible for enforcement of the standard codes of construction through inspections of permitted structures. The staff conducts mandatory inspections for all construction in the county. There are four mandatory inspections for construction of a new resident or commercial building including a footing/foundation inspection, a rough in inspections, a final electrical inspection, and a final walk through inspection. There are mandatory inspection on accessory buildings as well; however, these will be determined based on the type of construction at the time that the permit is issued by the Planning & Development Office. This office is also responsible for ensuring that structures have been permitted when complaints are filed. The Codes Enforcement Officer handles nuisance complaints and non-construction related code violations or complaints. Another responsibility for this office is maintenance of the County buildings outside of LaFayette and special projects as they are assigned.
